What If “Doctor Who” Was American?

http://ift.tt/1hdF97D

Smug Mode imagines what would the Time Lord’s 13 incarnations look like if the show was made across the pond.

First Doctor — Burgess Meredith

Known primarily for his roles as The Penguin in the 60s Batman series and Rocky Balboa's trainer, Mickey Goldmill, in the first three Rocky films Meredith made for an irascible, curmudgeonly yet warm and protective Doctor.

smugmode.tumblr.com

Second Doctor — Dick Van Dyke

Faced with the impossible task of replacing its lead star, the show's producer's decide not to replicate the previous Doctor, but go in a different direction entirely. Van Dyke's Second Doctor seems light and playful on the surface, but this masks a brilliantly inventive mind and an absolute abhorrence of injustice.

smugmode.tumblr.com

Third Doctor — Vincent Price

The show débuts in colour (or should that be color?) for the first time as the Doctor is exiled to Earth; now in the form of horror icon Vincent Price. Price hams the role up as a scientific madman aiding the U.S military in their constant battle against alien invasion!

smugmode.tumblr.com

Fourth Doctor — Gene Wilder

Gene Wilder's weird and wonderful comedic talents made the Doctor both more alien and more popular than ever before, making the show a surprise break-out hit even with UK Audiences. Wilder still holds the record for longest tenure in the role and still occasionally refers to himself as The Doctor.

Chances of the fandom surviving until November 23rd: slim to none.

More like Doctor “Huh? What? What’s going on?”

Doctor Who is a sassy Englishman who's been traveling through time for 50something years.

His face is always changing because he has magical powers and is also really damn indecisive — a dangerous combo.

MAKE UP YOUR MIND.

He also uses his magic powers to make himself younger. He may be Benjamin Button, also.

When he visited NYC, he ended up having one too many at a bar in Brooklyn…

13 Important Things To See From The “Doctor Who” Anniversary Trailer

http://99thingsyouwishyouknew.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/b1a9d__enhanced-buzz-6110-1383951789-2.jpg

Because, really, who wouldn’t want some hints about one of the most massive mysteries in Doctor Who history?

First off, the TARDIS looks in rough shape.

Given the hints about the plot, we can guess that these might be Dalek ships.

Or not. We don't know. But there are a lot of them.

There's an alien city! Gallifrey?

John Hurt appears after a voice over from Smith saying “There's one life I've tried very hard to forget.”

New Photos From The “Doctor Who” 50th Anniversary Episode

http://99thingsyouwishyouknew.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/f4886__enhanced-buzz-23898-1383783024-5.jpg

“The Day of the Doctor” can’t come soon enough.

In 2013, something terrible is awakening in London’s National Gallery; in 1562, a murderous plot is afoot in Elizabethan England; and somewhere in space an ancient battle reaches its devastating conclusion. All of reality is at stake as the Doctor's own dangerous past comes back to haunt him.

This definitely looks like the face of a haunted Time Lord.

The Definitive Ranking Of “Doctor Who” Companions

http://99thingsyouwishyouknew.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/e9568__grid-cell-3361-1383236626-4.jpg

The Doctor says his friends have always been the best of him. But who was the best out of them?

This is going to be fun! But before we start, a note on pedantry. We’re counting as a companion somebody who travelled full-time with the Doctor over multiple stories. Which rules out Sara Kingdom, Katarina, the UNIT boys and Astrid Peth. River Song and the Paternoster Crew therefore count as recurring characters. And yes, we realise that that should also disqualify Liz Shaw and Grace Holloway, but they were the female leads in their stories. And anyway, we are Doctor Who fans so THERE IS NOW WAY WE WILL EVER ALL BE HAPPY.

Let’s face it, The Doctor has put the women of Who through a lot of shit.

Know your worth.

Sarah Jane Smith won't stand for that patriarchal bullshit.

BBC One / Via doctorwhogifs.tumblr.com

Don't be afraid to go after what you want.

The Doctor always likes to think he stole the TARDIS, but we know the truth of it.

Via media.photobucket.com

Don't let anyone get in the way of your career.

River Song may be married to the Doctor, but that doesn't mean she hasn't successfully pursued both a doctorate and a professorial degree. Atta babe.

BBC One / Via wifflegif.com

Don't take no for an answer.

Dorothy Gale “Ace” McShane knew when to listen and when to follow her heart… or passion for explosives, anyway, but who doesn't love those?
